math nerd
One of my recent grads thought it would be funny to post this on my facebook wall earlier today:

Bonus points to anyone who knows why this is a false (although clever!) proof
Thanks for all the lovely comments and support from my last post. Today was another amazing conference day with amazing food (and cookies and cheesecake), and although I ate more that I would have “allowed” myself to eat in the past (especially in front of other people! dessert in public?? i’m not perfect?? what a concept!) I’m recording it all and will gladly exercise a bit more later to balance everything out. I can’t work out tonight because of the RASCAL FLATTS CONCERT!! Yay for Mom’s :) We’re seeing them at the same place she took me to see my first concert when I was a young’n (Reba McIntyre) :) Have a fun-filled night!
What was your first concert that you ever saw?

I’m not even going to take a stab at that equation.
I don’t know what my first concert was… the first one I can really remember was Shania Twain.
Have fun!

Something you said really spoke to me — “I ate more that I would have “allowed” myself to eat in the past (especially in front of other people! dessert in public?? i’m not perfect?? what a concept!” — ding! There’s another one of my issues. I HATE looking “weak” or less than perfect when it comes to eating in front of people. Everyone sees me as the “healthy” one, the one with the super strong will power, etc., so I hate “messing up” in front of others. It never helps when someone says something like, “You eat that stuff?!”, “What happened to your healthy eating?!”, etc. People don’t know what they are doing when they make comments like that to me. They are making feel like a failure, even though I know that isn’t the case.

Hope you have fun at the concert.
I believe the first concert I saw was Poison. Love 80s hair bands.

Oh man I LOVE Rascal Flatts! I gotta say I’m pretty jealous. Have fun and keep being awesome!

That third to last line is wrong. It should be a=0… I think
I did something similar, food wise yesterday. It’s important to let yourself enjoy some events without constantly trying to turn down food. I know if I didn’t eat some things yesterday at the bbq I went to, the entire time I would have a dialogue in my head about why I should or shouldn’t have something, instead of enjoying the company I’m with. So I had a cookie and a hot dog, even though that put me over the edge calorie wise. No big deal. Life goes on, right?
I have a heart time enjoying things in moderation at those types of conferences. Glad you had something indulgent and feel good about it!

WOW! Rascal Flats!! Have so much fun!!! It looks like lots of things are wrong but the fourth line down should be (a+b)(a-b) = a^2 - b^2 if we assume that a + b = b then it could be b(a-b)…
but also, a+a= a means that a= a-a which means a=0 - you can’t do multiplication and division until you do addition and subtraction-

I used to be pretty good at math…now it just hurts my brain to think about it!
I LOVE Rascal Flatts!! I only have one of their cd’s…I need to get the others.
My first concert = Amy Grant in 5th grade. I just loved her - I even permed my HAIR because of her…oh my.

I have not commented in way too long! Forgive me, though I have been reading… (even though I should be studying, which your math problem is currently reminding me of :P)…
Ok, that math thing has to be explained or I’ll go mad! Just got another tutor lesson today, I hope I start getting it soon (I have my exams in 3 weeks!). But my theory is: if 2a = a, a= 1… but 2 can’t be 1 because 2=2… and 1 seems to fit in all the other “givens”… am I righ? (God I hope so, or I’m doomed…)
And my first concert ever was 2 years ago at Pinkpop (big festival in Holland) when I saw Evanescence! Omg, it was so much fun (I have very fond memories of rain, mud and moshpits…)
Love,
Tina
